Millet UBIC 25L – The Fully-Equipped 4-Season Day Hiking Backpack (860 g)

Early trailhead, the forecast hesitating between sun and rain, skis maybe, rope maybe. You don't want to pack for every scenario — you want one pack that's already ready for them. The Millet UBIC 25L was built exactly for that: a versatile 4-season day pack that comes equipped out of the box, from its integrated rain cover to its side ski carry, so you can spend your attention on the trail instead of on your gear.

Its real signature is what it brings as standard: an integrated rain cover tucked into its own pocket (out in seconds, 100% waterproof), a side ski carry system for winter days, a dedicated rope stash under the single-buckle flap, and an expandable front mesh compartment to grow the carry volume when the kit grows mid-day. Most 25L packs treat all of this as missing features — the UBIC makes them part of the base kit.

The construction combines a PA 210D Solution Dye main fabric with Recycled PES 600D reinforcements and a Recycled PES 250D lining, all with 1,000 mm water resistance and PFC-free DWR treatment. At least 38 % recycled content by weight, and an ECO DYEING process that uses less water, fewer harmful chemicals and lower CO₂ emissions than conventional textile dyeing — durability and lower impact, built in from the raw material up.

What Makes the Real Difference on the Trail

The UBIC 25L doesn't chase a single specialty. It combines smart organization, built-in weather protection, real ski carry and a comfortable harness so the same pack handles a summer ridge, an autumn approach, a winter snowshoe day and a spring ski tour without swapping gear between outings.

  • 🌧️ Integrated rain cover – 100 % waterproof, tucked in its own pocket, out in seconds.
  • 🎿 Side ski carry – real ski attachment on both sides, comfortable for freeride skis.
  • 🪢 Rope stash under the flap – held securely by the single-buckle closure.
  • 📂 Expandable front mesh compartment – grow the carry volume mid-day.
  • 💧 Hydration compatible – bladder sleeve to drink without stopping.
  • ♻️ ECO DYEING + recycled materials – lower water, lower chemicals, lower CO₂.

The pack distributes its pockets where you actually need them: two flap zippered pockets for keys and cards, a hip belt zip pocket on the breathable belt, a front zip pocket, two mesh side pockets for bottles or poles, and the expandable front mesh compartment for a damp layer or extra kit. Side compression straps and hand support straps stabilize the load on descents, and the metal flap buckle keeps the closure fast, secure and glove-friendly.

Who This Backpack Is For

The UBIC 25L is for hikers who want one genuinely versatile day pack — not a specialized tool for one season, not a stripped-down speed hiker, but a reliable companion that's ready whatever the day throws at you.

  • You hike year-round — summer ridges, autumn trails, winter approaches, ski touring days.
  • You value being ready — integrated rain cover, side ski carry, logical pockets, everything where it should be.
  • You want real comfort — breathable hip belt, ergonomic straps, load distribution on long days.
  • Sustainability matters to you — recycled materials, ECO DYEING process, PFC-free treatment.

If your priority is chasing grams for fast hiking or running, a stripped minimalist like the MIXT 15 will serve you better. But for real day hiking across seasons — hiking, climbing approach, ski touring — when you want a pack that's already prepared for the conditions instead of one you have to prep yourself, the UBIC 25L hits the sweet spot: equipped, comfortable, durable, and honest about its impact.

FAQ

+

Because on the trail, you'll actually use it. A separate rain cover is the accessory you leave at home. Tucked into its own pocket on the UBIC, it deploys in seconds the moment the sky turns, protects your gear with 100 % waterproof coverage, and never gets lost. A small detail that changes how prepared you feel every time the weather shifts.

+

The UBIC 25L features a side ski carry system with skis positioned on each side of the pack — more comfortable than an A-frame carry, and particularly well-suited to wider freeride skis. It's a genuine mountain-ready attachment, not a marketing loop, and makes the pack a real option for ski touring days and winter approaches.

+

Yes — 25L is the sweet spot for day hiking. It fits a 1.5–2 L hydration bladder, a waterproof shell, a mid-layer or light insulation, lunch, a first-aid kit, gloves, headlamp and essentials. The expandable front mesh compartment gives you extra margin if you need to add a layer mid-day or stash a wet jacket on the way down.

+

ECO DYEING is a low-impact dyeing technology that delivers longer-lasting colours, stronger intensity and less bleeding than conventional textile dyeing — while using significantly less water, fewer harmful chemicals and lower CO₂ emissions. It's one of the tangible ways Millet reduces the environmental footprint of the UBIC at the raw material stage, not just at the seam.

+

Yes. A dedicated hydration sleeve sits inside the main compartment with a tube port in the harness area, so you can drink without stopping. Ideal on long ascents or in cold weather when taking the pack off breaks your rhythm.

+

Same UBIC DNA, smaller format. The UBIC 20 is for shorter outings and lighter loads — shares the expandable mesh front compartment and the recycled construction, but is lighter, simpler and without the rain cover, the ski carry or the hip belt. The UBIC 25 adds margin for full-day hiking and the features needed for real 4-season use. If you hike all day and in all seasons, go 25L. If you move lighter and shorter, 20L is plenty.

+

Hand wash at a maximum of 40 °C with mild, non-aggressive soap and air dry fully before storing. Brush off trail dirt instead of soaking the pack. Avoid tumble drying, bleach, ironing and dry cleaning — these degrade the DWR treatment and reduce long-term water resistance. Re-proof the DWR periodically with a PFC-free spray to maintain weather performance.

Great Read!!! Great story!!!
Format: Kindle
The series is long, but Ms. Wolfhart does a fantastic job of weaving this tale while bringing so much to the characters. Surprises and plot twists along the way to keep you intrigued. There is some graphic sex, but is no way the focal point. Grammar was excellent (a rare find with a lot of self publishers) with only a few noted errors. I rarely give 4 stars, let alone 5.

Sadly, DNF
Format: Kindle
I read this thru KU. I LOVED the synopsis. And then I began reading... and it was a DNF at 68% after picking it up and putting it down several times because I really loved the main female character. *****SPOILERS***** Pros: The world is unique, intriguing and fun. The primary female character is bad-a** but not a b*tech or a mary sue. The primary female has depth. I really want to know what happens to her even tho it's been weeks and I don't remember her name. The villains to the point I read are pretty good -- an ever present threat of mysterious and possibly many culprits. Cons: Way, way too many points of view. I stopped counting at 7. It's the prime reason why I don't care about most of the characters or remember their names even when I like them. There's just too many points of view so almost none of the characters have enough book space for the author to properly develop them. This literally killed the book for me. Actually it killed my desire to read. For weeks. The main male is more villain than hero. He agreed to marry the main female then locks her up & eschews her for her sister, all while bad mouthing her as unfit to rule when he never spent any time with her getting to know her. He is actually unfit to rule as he is blind to the woes of his own kingdom and starts off a peace mission to secure a ceasefire through marriage by murdering an inn full of people in her country for no real reason. Plus, he constantly makes promises he does not keep. And it's gross of him to pine for the sister behind the main female's back. ***** As much as I really wanted to see what happened to the main female character, it wasn't enough for me to keep trying to slog thru this book. There was a lot of potential here that just fell short. Hence, 3 stars.

Fae Courts with High Intrigue
Format: Kindle
This book is one that just builds and builds and then surprises you to no end. You may think you know the villains and then you are jolted in another direction. Princess Reyna is a real gem, strong of character, a fierce fighter, and loyal to her family and kingdom. Just when you think she and Lorcan, well you know, the plot is flipped. Can't wait to see where this goes in book two.

Slow, sorry but good
Format: Kindle
This was a slow moving book. Lots of character pov chapters, lots of superfluous descriptions and endless courtly appearances stalled this book to start. Once you get into the heart of the story, it takes off. Before you know it the book is done. My favorite character is Reyna. She is so strong. She is true to herself. She gets into a lot of trouble with her headstrong ways but it's entertaining. I have high hopes for Lorcan. He is honorable to a fault. Thane had turned out to be better than I thought but i still don't like him. Eislin is useless. Great plot twists at the end. I'm looking forward too book 2.

Very detailed! Beautiful world building! Strong Heroine!
Format: Kindle
Starts off a little slow and confusing with different POV’s, but starts to all come together towards the middle to make an elaborate plot line and makes it all worth it. Beautiful world building and attention to detail as well as great writing. The cliffhanger was gut wrenching! Can’t wait for the next book!
