Brief History

The Santa Maria was the flagship of Christopher Columbus’s fleet on his first voyage to America. On August 1492, the Santa Maria, the Pinta and Nina started their voyage to the Americas from the Palos de la Frontera port on the southwest coast of Spain. After two months at sea, on October 12, the sailors finally saw land. There are no exact drawings of the Santa Maria, but it is estimated that the length of the hull was about 115 feet (35 meters) with a displacement of about 200 tons.
