Artist: Ibrahim Miranda

This work was printed at Brand X Editions in NYC, a well known master printer.

Ibrahim Miranda is from Pinar del Rio, and currently lives and works in Havana. He is one of Cuba's most important visual artists and printmakers, who began showing his work in Cuba, Mexico, Spain, and the US shortly after graduating from the Instituto Superior de Arte. He has since gained international recognition for his work based on maps, particularly maps of Cuba, emphasizing qualities of water and isolation, suggesting a state of metamorphosis and change. Miranda’s Mapaglifos series imaginatively redefines the borders of cities as animals, ascribing symbolic meaning to each metropolis and chronicling the shape shifting nature of our annexed world. With poetry inspired in “Islandness” as a concept with all the thematic connotations and psychology it entails, Miranda reinterprets his vision of this island, expanding its borders and physical limits so as to make it universal. Suggestive icons -- such as the alligator, the sleeping Indian and the tracing of history as a way to know our interior selves-- make us reflect on our origins and their worth, the geography that each of us carries wherever we go and that defines us as human beings.

Miranda is a master of woodblock, and was very influential in the resurgence and revitalization of Cuban printmaking in the 1990s. He bases many of his works on found maps tracing the distinctive "crocodile" profile of the island of Cuba, and plumbs its literature, music, religion, history and flora and fauna in an exploration of enduring themes of geographical and existential isolation, the urban condition, Afro-Cuban heritage, and personal/collective biographies. The poetry and songs of Cuba provide literary and philosophical ideas, deepening the meaning and impact of his prints and paintings.

Ibrahim’s work can be found in numerous private and public collections, including the Museo Bellas Artes in Havana, Casa de las Americas, Havana, the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (MFA), The National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, Thyssen-Bornemisza Contemporary Art Foundation in Madrid and the Apeldoorn Museum in the Netherlands. In 2012, Ibrahim Miranda won a residency in the Hugh MacColl Center in Charlotte, NC., among others.

Miranda was the invited artist in the Boston Printmakers Biennial in October 2013.  He referred to the piece, Dumbo and the Candies, A Misunderstanding, as “a dream that was never made”.  Ibrahim believes that it had been difficult to produce the piece due its perceived social, political, and cultural message. The edition was printed in the fall of 2015 at Brand X Editions in New York, and published by Latin Art Space.

Hand lotion
Size: 1 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This lotion does what is said it will. I used it and my hands are extremely dry from washing them all day while at work. Once I’m home I use it and my hand feels silky smooth without the greasy feel afterwards.

SMALL! Don’t waste your money!
Size: 1 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I should’ve looked closer when purchasing because this is a super small sample size that isn’t even as big as the travel size and yet I paid as much for it as a regular size. What a joke! The product itself is great but I would’ve never ordered this size if I’d known it was going to be sooooo small. What a ripoff!

Obsessed. Soothing, effective, fragrance-free, incredibly healing
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I’ve been loving this so much I bought a second bottle after a few days of using it. It has all the skin soothing benefits of the tolerance lotion cleanser, but it’s also a really great cleanser. It’s almost not noticeable how good it is at cleansing because your skin doesn’t feel stripped after, but it takes things off really quickly. I was worried because it doesn’t foam a lot and it feels so nurturing — much like the tolerance lotion cleanser (which I use as a second cleanse when my skin needs a few days to recover from something like a derm office treatment) — but when I wash again with my favorite HG cleanser nothing extra comes off, and I tested it twice on waterproof eyeliner that I’d swiped on my forearm for an hour or so, the eyeliner dissolved and wiped off with two or three gentle swipes. It has a very emollient texture, so when you rub it against your skin it slips so easily you don’t realize it’s dissolving and taking things away because there is no friction. So it’s great at taking off makeup, it’s AMAZING at cleaning makeup brushes, and IT DOES NOT BURN MY EYES AT ALL. Also, it is FRAGRANCE-FREE… before I bought it I read a review complaining about smelling a citrus fragrance, that person either has some sort of brain tumor or something spilled on their bottle when it was in a warehouse because this is definitely a fragrance-free product. Prior to trying this, I had tried another cleanser that gave me weird acne hives all over my chest (never happened to me before) and I was struggling to heal the acne and the irritation. I noticed an immediate difference when I started using the tolerance cleanser on it; the fresh redness went away, the acne started healing, and the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation has been healing fast. So I’ve been using this on my body as well and it’s soothing and moisturizing in all the places where other things have been drying. I have mild rosacea and I hadn’t realized how irritated my skin was from the last thing I’d tried until after 5 days or so of using this my skin tone looked much more even and the stubborn PIH I have from a two-zit hormonal breakout a month ago finally looked dramatically lighter (as recently as the week before, I’d needed to cover them with high-coverage concealer). Because this doesn’t foam much, some people might not realize how well it’s cleaning… I encourage you to judge it based on how your skin looks and feels. Since it is very emollient though, I do think it’s important to use it with a face wash scrubber or washcloth just to ensure you’re getting some mild mechanical exfoliation and clearing away skin cells that could be trapping stuff in your pores. For this reason, I do wash my face with this twice so the first wash can get off makeup/debris/oil and then the second wash can really penetrate and clean my skin.

No Scent and Gentle
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
I broke out in a case of Perioral Dermatitis recently and bought this product to help before I could see my doctor. Avene Tolerance facial cleanser has no scent and is very gentle on my skin. It didn’t burn when washing with this product, and even helped to slough off the dead skin around my lips. My face feels clean, not dry. I am still going to see my doc to get an RX for the inflammation, but I do believe this product helped to alleviate the dryness and tightness of my skin and lips. I’ve used other Avene products and I’m very happy with them. Even though these products are more expensive, to me they are well worth the money because they are much more gentle on the skin than any other products I’ve used. I will buy this product again just because of the fact that it’s so gentle. PS: at the time of purchase for this product, I also bought Avene’s Tolerance Control Skin Recovery Cream (you don’t need to use a lot of this one on your entire face), and Avene’s Cicalfate for lips. Between these 3 products, my lips and skin feel a lot better (however, I will still see my doctor because I have Crohn’s Disease and Perioral Dermatitis is considered an extra-intestinal side effect of Crohn’s).

Gentle everyday cleanser!
Style: Tolerance Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser
My go to nightly cleanser! Gentle yet effective. Removes makeup without leaving any residue behind. Also does not dry out my skin or cause breakouts! I would say it’s more of a cream cleanser though. It does not really foam up. It’s a decent size bottle for the price. The pump dispenser is an added plus!
