The bold, sculptural Pachypodium lamerei (commonly known as the Madagascar Palm) is a striking addition to any indoor space. With its tall, spiny trunk and crown of lush, tropical leaves, it brings desert drama and architectural flair—while being surprisingly low-maintenance.
Light: Pachypodium lamerei thrives in bright light and can tolerate several hours of direct sun. It loves a sunny windowsill or well-lit room and will grow best in conditions that mimic its natural desert habitat. Low light will cause weak, leggy growth—so brighter is better.
Water: This plant likes its soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the growing season, water thoroughly when the soil is dry. In winter, reduce watering significantly—sometimes as little as once a month. Be sure to use well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes to avoid root rot.
