Its evolution recently culminating in their flagship power cable, the A.S.P. Leviathan, considered by many to be one of the best audio power cables in the world. The new A.S.P. PROTEUS maximum current, precision power cable borrows many essential elements from the Leviathan along with some from the award winning A.S.P. Medusa speaker cable.

The A.S.P. PROTEUS employs the same expanded cross-section, heavy gauge AeroStrandUltra™ conductors as the Leviathan. The proprietary radiation-invulnerable shield blocks all external airborne interferences and is further enhanced by extreme mechanical damping, similar to that found in the Medusa speaker cable. The conductor arrays in these cables are fully encased in their granulated H.D.A. (High Density Alloy) which is ideally suited to damp and completely nullify induced vibrations that commonly affect audio cables running along the floor. One of the things that I find to be so special with the Proteus is how each note seems to have energy, as if each has its own dedicated energy source giving it life. The Proteus also delves deeply into the source material, whether analog or digital, unearthing a treasure trove of musically-relevant information while at the same time retaining the proper pitch and tone…..To the extent that a power cable lowers the noise floor, what actually happens is that the listener becomes able, perhaps for the first time, to hear very low-level detail previously lost in the noise floor: ambience, subtle cues about the space in which the music was recorded, faint background sounds or even musically relevant information. That is certainly true of the Proteus, which yields a wealth of previously unheard low-level information that seems to enrich the music and make it sound more lifelike, but never at the expense of correct pitch or tonality and always with a certain silkiness and finesse.

The point is, you definitely need to treat the Proteus as a major component and/or electrical system upgrade, and not just think of it as another power cord tweak. I wish I could have tested a single Proteus on a high power integrated amp to see how much it would benefit such a component. In some systems that could provide more bang for the buck than going to separates……and the Proteus can certainly tame and get the best out of your amps. Very highly recommended, if you can afford them (and, I guess, even if you can’t).

What happened, did you add a sub?” We were all smiles when the Proteus, the Greek sea god, took up residence. That’s not to say my quest for authoritative low-end is over. I’m only reporting that my bass response is subjectively much more satisfying. The Proteus is like icing on the cake… no, make that icing plus filling, because it fills out the sound. The massive low-end foundation it laid down was just what I had hoped for.
