Sweet Iron bits are crafted from durable steel and feature a distinctive blue colour. This material is designed to encourage natural salivation, enhancing your horse's comfort and promoting better acceptance of the bit.

Eliptical /  Double-Jointed

A double-jointed bit consists of three parts, with the middle section resting on the tongue. This design means the double-jointed bit applies more pressure to the tongue than a single-jointed bit, but it distributes pressure more evenly across the bars and corners of the mouth.

With this bits It’s crucial to choose the correct size for a double-jointed bit. If the bit is too large, the joints may touch the corners of the mouth, potentially causing small wounds.

Beval & Swivel Bit

A Beval bit features loose rings with additional eyelets on the inside, where the cheekpiece and rein are attached. This bit provides a softer effect compared to a 2½ & 3 Ring Snaffle, offering less leverage but maintaining control. The Swivel bit is a variation of the Beval, allowing the bit to "slide" and apply gentle pressure against the horse’s cheek, enhancing manoeuvrability and responsiveness.

Why Proper Sizing Matters

Choosing the correct bit size is essential for your horse’s comfort and performance. A bit that is too small can create painful pressure points and damage the mouth, while a bit that is too large may slide through the horse's mouth, causing discomfort and pinching the corners, potentially leading to wounds. Understanding Color Changes

Sweet Iron bits naturally change color over time as they come into contact with humidity. The vibrant blue surface will transition to a greyish-brown tone due to oxidation. This process is entirely normal and improves the bit’s functionality by creating a sweet taste that stimulates salivation and enhances acceptance.

If the bit isn’t used regularly, a thicker layer of rust may form. This is easily removed with a brush or cloth before use to maintain the bit's performance.
