If your 2018–2025 Jeep Wrangler JL or Gladiator JT sees real trail time, the lower ball joints are the unsung heroes holding it all together and the stock ones just don’t cut it. Apex Chassis engineered their Super HD Lower Ball Joint to eliminate steering play, handle oversized tires, and stand up to the toughest off-road abuse without premature wear.
Built from forged SAE 1045 steel and featuring a heat-treated 4140 Chromoly ball stud, these joints deliver extreme strength and long-term reliability under high loads and constant movement. Apex’s precision bearing and sealing system ensure smooth operation with minimal friction and unbeatable contamination resistance.
Like the uppers, they’re available in both standard and knurled versions:
-
The standard version provides a perfect factory-style press fit for OEM knuckles.
-
The knurled version offers a slightly tighter fit for knuckles that have seen multiple replacements or have been machined oversized.
Whether you’re daily driving or tackling rock gardens, Apex Chassis lower ball joints restore the solid steering feel you expect from your Jeep — and the durability to keep it that way.
HOUSING
- SAE 1045 Solid Steel Forged Housing: This is unequivocally the best carbon alloy steel for this application.
- CNC Machined Housing: Make our parts and bearings dimensionally perfect, eliminating any die wear issues.
BALL STUDS
- SAE 4140 hot forged Chromoly Ball Studs: For the strongest possible metallurgy.
- Induction Heat Treated Ball Studs: Provides a very precise heat treatment to the exact depth and location we want it.
- Polished Ball Studs: Are built like an anti-friction bearing with extremely precise tolerances.
- Rolled Threads: Are made by pressing the shape of the threads into the ball stud instead of cutting. This strengthens the threads instead of weakening them and allows for easy movement of hardware. This ain't no Ikea furniture!
- Step Threads: allows for very easy movement of hardware on install and superior holding when torqued (installer choice).
BEARING DESIGN
- Bronze Bearing design: Our newest improvement in bearing design. Combines our perfectly polished ball studs, encased in a solid steel forged housing, lined with a highly durable, low friction bronze bearing.
BOOTS
- CR Rubber Boots: The most durable material for undercar applications. Resistant to deterioration from road level ozone, oil/gas/engine fluids and extreme heat or cold.
- Internal Seal Boot: The boot is coined onto the ball joint, for superior sealing against contaminants.
HARDWARE
- Grade 8 - Class 10.9 Hardware: Superior tensile strength.
- Castle Nut: Industry standard where high vibration loads occur.
LUBRICATION
- Pre threaded Zerk Housing: If you have ever installed a MOOG Ball Joint without a pre-threaded zerk fitting you will understand what a simple but great feature this is. Another installer fav.
- Greaseable: Because it should be.
- Pre-Greased: Just in case you forget, we have you covered.
- Gull Winged Grease Grooves: Allows for improved lubrication disbursement around the ball stud.
- Zerk Fittings: Included for every application.
