The Namiki Yukari Maki-e Fountain Pen - Autumn Leaves captures the quiet drama of Japan's momiji season in layered urushi lacquer and precious metal powders. Rendered by Namiki artisans, the falling maple motif reveals depth and movement as light plays across the surface, inviting the hand as much as the eye.

Craftsmanship & Design

Built on an ebonite core and finished with natural urushi, the Yukari profile offers an elegant canvas for traditional maki-e. Autumn leaves unfurl in warm vermilion and amber tones, their veins and edges defined with gold accents that shimmer within the lacquer rather than sitting atop it. This sense of embedded radiance is achieved through time-honored togidashi and hira maki-e techniques, in which layers of lacquer and metallic powders are applied, cured, and carefully polished to a refined roiro gloss.

Gold-plated appointments frame the artwork with understated warmth, while the clean clip line and discreet cap band preserve the pen's balanced proportions. Every surface speaks to patient handwork: the smooth transitions of color, the crisp articulation of each leaf, and the subtle gradation across the barrel and cap that echoes the passage of the season.

Writing Experience

An 18k gold Namiki nib anchors the experience with characteristic smoothness and control. Hand-finished in Japan, it offers a supple feel on the page with a consistent, well-regulated flow suited to thoughtful correspondence and long-form writing alike. Fine, medium, and broad options allow writers to choose a line that complements their script, from precise, quietly shaded notes to more expressive strokes.

The Yukari size sits comfortably in the hand, with a reassuringly solid yet agile balance. A screw-secured cap protects the nib and seals the feed, and the Pilot proprietary cartridge/converter system provides dependable everyday practicality with easy maintenance.

Heritage

Namiki represents Pilot's pinnacle of urushi and maki-e craft, a lineage shaped in close collaboration with the Kokkokai atelier of lacquer artists since the early 20th century. Within this tradition, each Yukari piece requires numerous cycles of lacquering, curing, and polishing to realize the quiet depth that collectors seek. The Autumn Leaves motif honors a centuries-old aesthetic preoccupation in Japan: the beauty of transience made permanent, preserved in lacquer that will develop a gentle luster through decades of careful use.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.
