Engraver: Thomas Humphrey Paget
Thomas Humphrey Paget OBE was an English medal and coin designer and modeller.
Paget's designs are indicated by the initials 'HP'. Paget was first approached
by the Royal Mint in 1936 after the accession of King Edward VIII. Paget's
recommendation had come via his earlier design for the obverse of a medal
featuring the then-Prince of Wales.

In 1937-1947 there were no banknotes
nominated in Dominican pesos. US dollars were in circulation (since 1905), and
local coins were circulating at par with US coins like in Panama and Ecuador in
our days. The coins had weights, diameters, and composition identical to those
of US coins of that period.
Silver coins of the Dominican Republic were not officially demonetized, but they
disappeared from circulation already in the 1970s because of inflation.
