Vintage Scandinavian glass minimalism. A small opaline glass bowl was designed by Finnish designer Nanny Still for Riihimäki Lasi, Finland’s renowned glassworks. Produced between 1954 and 1957, 1162 series, it shows Still’s restrained poetic approach to functional objects.

Dimensions: Size: H 5.5 cm × Ø 10 cm (maximum diameter)
Material: Semi-translucent white opaline glass

The form is quietly sculptural: a gently flared rim sits atop a round, compact body with smooth continuous curves. The glass reflects light softly, almost like polished porcelain, creating a play of tone and opacity that shifts with its surroundings. The asymmetries and lightness of form like hand-thrown ceramics while retaining the cool modernism of blown glass.

Condition:

Light signs of wear to the base consistent with age and gentle use. A continuous encircling scratch or line is visible along the outer body, likely a production related artifact, as it is evenly formed and embedded in the glass.

Styling & Use:

This piece works beautifully in minimalist or Nordic interiors: on open shelving, bedside tables or as an accent in a display of modern glass or ceramics. While originally designed as a sugar bowl, it can also be used for small items, tealight candles or simply appreciated as an art object.

However there were just one too many convoluted plot points, sentences just did not flow nicely at times, and I was left with a lot of confusion on my end.
