From what I've read, they are attracted to the color of the feeder more so than the smell of the nectar / food itself. First of all I just want to point out all of the reviews from people who claim that the bottle arrived damaged or open and in some cases ruined the other products shipped in the same box. Amazon will not issue a refund for that, which is absurd. My bottle arrived in good shape although the top was loose - not a big deal. The formula itself I find to be the best out there. I used to buy Pennington, which until this year was a deep red, now it is a light orange. The hummers will not stomach it. This product is better than the older version of the other brand. Taking one star off for all of those people who got a damaged bottle that would not be refunded.
