Together with Fela Kuti (with whom he played for 15 years) Allen co-created Afrobeat - the hard-driving, horns-rich, funk-infused, politically insurrectionary style which became such a dominant force in African music and such an influence worldwide. His iconic drumming has since underpinned an extensive catalogue of solo works as well as collaborations with the likes of Damon Albarn (as part of The Good, The Bad and The Queen), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sebastien Tellier, Grace Jones, Malian superstar Oumou Sangaré, Jeff Mills and Hugh Masekela. His 2009 World Circuit debut, the raw and uncut Secret Agent, has all the ingredients that combine to make Afrobeat so special - fat, full-throated, hard riffing horns; nagging tenor guitars; jazz- and funk-informed saxophone and trumpet work outs; effervescent chicken-shack keyboards; lyrics rich in folk metaphors and proverbs, some of which confront state corruption and oppression (Kuti’s most frequent targets); deep-soul call and response vocals; and, of course, energising everything around it, Allen’s majestic drumming. In 2022 World Circuit will re-release this classic album on 2 x 180g heavyweight vinyl. I sampled this 21-piece cartridge set to use with my compatible Dr. Pen device, and I was impressed by the variety included for the price.
Having a mix of 36-pin, 12-pin, and round nano cartridges makes this kit much more versatile than single-style refill packs.
I liked being able to switch between gentler skincare applications and more focused microneedling sessions without needing separate orders for different cartridge types.
The cartridges were individually sealed, which added reassurance about cleanliness and storage.
The fit with my compatible device was secure and consistent. Each cartridge locked firmly into place without wobbling or shifting during use, which is something I pay close attention to with replacement tips. The needles moved smoothly across my skin without snagging or dragging, and I did not notice bending or dullness during normal use. The 0.25mm depth is also a comfortable option for lighter at-home treatments with minimal downtime afterward.
I also appreciated how convenient this set is for maintaining a regular skincare routine. The nano cartridges worked well for serum application and gentler sessions, while the higher pin counts covered larger areas efficiently.
The cartridges themselves are lightweight, and while the plastic housing does not feel especially premium, the actual performance was dependable.

Fit my Dr. Pen perfectly!
I picked up this 21-piece microneedling cartridge set for my Dr. Pen device, and overall it’s a very solid value for at-home use. For the price (around the low $30 range), you’re getting a useful mix of 7 nano, 7 12-pin, and 7 36-pin cartridges, which makes it easy to switch between lighter skincare treatments, product infusion, and more intensive microneedling sessions without buying separate packs.
Compatibility was exactly as expected. The cartridges fit my Dr. Pen M7 securely with no looseness or alignment issues. They clicked into place properly and stayed stable during use, with no wobbling or skipping, which is important for a consistent treatment experience.
In actual use, the performance was reliable. The needles worked smoothly on the skin, and I didn’t notice any bending or breakage. Each cartridge comes individually packaged, which helps maintain sterility and makes them convenient for single-use sessions. The different tip types also give good flexibility depending on whether you want gentler nano-needling or deeper penetration with the 36-pin option.
That said, the build quality is a bit on the simpler side. The cartridges have a slightly plasticky feel and a blue-purple tint, so they don’t look as refined as some higher-end alternatives I’ve used. However, since these are disposable, that cosmetic difference doesn’t really affect performance.

Good Variety Pack With Solid Compatibility, But No Protective Caps
This is a review for this 21-piece variety pack of Dr. Pen microneedling cartridges. For around $32, this actually feels like a pretty solid value overall. You’re getting seven nano cartridges, seven 12-pin, and seven 36-pin, so it’s a nice mix depending on whether you’re doing product infusion, lighter treatments, or more intensive microneedling sessions. I always appreciate a variety pack because otherwise you end up buying giant boxes of one type and suddenly becoming emotionally committed to 36-pin needles for the next six years.
These fit my Dr. Pen M7/M7S perfectly with no issues clicking into place or staying secure during use. I didn’t have any wobbling, uneven dragging, or weird skipping while microneedling. Functionally, they performed just as well as other replacement cartridges I’ve used.
That said, they do look and feel a little cheaper than some other cartridges I’ve purchased before. Not necessarily unusable, just not quite as sturdy or polished-looking. Since these are single-use anyway, that may not matter to everyone, but it was noticeable.
My biggest hesitation is that these do not come with protective caps over the needles. To be fair, the listing photos actually do show them packaged this way, so it’s not misleading — they were honest about it — but personally I’m just more comfortable when cartridges have caps for an added sense of sterility and protection. They are individually vacuum sealed with expiration dates, which I do appreciate, but I’ll probably use my capped cartridges first before reaching for these.
Because of that, I’d feel a little more comfortable initially using these on areas like the chest or neck rather than jumping straight into facial treatments, at least until I’ve tested them more thoroughly. I’d also definitely be extra cautious about sanitizing everything beforehand.
Overall though, for the quantity and variety included, this still feels like a decent buy if you go through cartridges regularly.

Awesome versatility, affordable, easy to use micro needles for compatible Dr. Pen devices 🫶🏽💉🤩⭐️
This microneedling cartridge refill set is a pretty great value with a convenient mix of multiple needle options. It’s super versatile and should easily meet all your microneedling skincare needs. The cartridges fit securely with compatible Dr. Pen models (mine is 7). MAKE SURE YOURS FITS!! Some devices THREAD, others DO NOT!! This is super important b/c if you don’t have the correct type, there’s nothing you can do to make them work! These refills allow for easy and effective operation without causing skin snagging, tears, or injury (other than ‘micro injury,’ which is what’s intended by the whole concept of Microneedling!). The individually sealed cartridges are sanitary, convenient for travel, and are an excellent choice for any microneedling skincare regimen. While the plastic housing/casing feels somewhat lightweight, the kit’s performance is actually top notch. I do wish they had protective caps for even more superior protection, but it’s a great deal and I can’t complain for the price. It’s a total no-brainer if you have a compatible Dr. Pen Microneedling device.
