De wijngaard Op Die Berg staat bekend om zijn appels en peren op de top van de Witzenberg in Ceres. Maar hier worden ook de Chardonnay druiven geteeld. Deze wijngaard ligt op een hoogte van 960 meter met zachte leisteenbodems en extreem koude winters. In sommige jaren zijn de wijnstokken in de winter volledig bedekt met sneeuw - uniek in Zuid-Afrika en waardoor het klimaat echt continentaal is en ideaal voor met name Chardonnay. Het langzaam rijpende fruit produceert wijnen met een consistent onderscheidend karakter en expressieve stijl.

Handmatige oogst voor De Grendel Op Die Berg Chardonnay

De Grendel is een historisch landgoed op de Tygerberg en werd in 1891 gekocht door de politicus en zakenman Sir David Pieter de Villiers Graaf. Pas in 1999 heeft de derde generatie hier druiven geplant. Het succes komt pas in 2005 doen de beroemde wijnmaker Charles Hopkins ingehuurd wordt en een compleet nieuwe wijnkelder bouwt. Voor deze Sauvignon Blanc wordt er een speciale wijngaardselectie gemaakt van hoogwaardige wijngaarden in Lutzville en Darling, plus een kleine partij Semillon van De Grendel Vineyards, waarbij nauwgezet wijngaardbeheer zorgt voor superieure fruitconcentratie en krachtigere smaken. De Chardonnay druiven worden volledig met de hand geoogst en zorgvuldig geselecteerd. In de wijnmakerij worden de druiven ontsteeld, gekneusd en licht geperst. Na twee dagen bezinken wordt het sap geënt en overgebracht naar Franse eiken vaten voor fermentatie. De wijn rijpt 6 maanden 'sur lie' op vat terwijl hij een 'bâtonnage' ondergaat. Bâtonnage is de methode om de droesem op te roeren en vindt twee keer per week plaats vóór de malolactische gisting en een keer per maand na de malolactische gisting om het mondgevoel en de structuur van de wijn te verbeteren.

De parelwijn van De Grendel

De Grendel Op die Berg Chardonnay is pareltje onder Chardonnay wijnen. De goud gele kleur doet al veel goeds vermoeden. In de geur heerlijk aromatisch met tonen van Butterscotch, kokos, vanille en geel fruit zoals peer en abrikoos. De smaak heeft in het begin fijne tonen van rijp geel fruit, waarna deze ontpoppen tot een heerlijke sensatie van perzik, abrikoos, vanille, een lichte hint van kokos en een minerale maar toch romige finish! Man wat een indrukken proefden wij in deze heerlijke Chardonnay van De Grendel.

Large is a little big for Bostons

Seems to be durable for 2 VERY agressive chewer Boston Terriers. Cricket and Alice are shockingly good at chewing - grateful they pick to do so with thier toys. Trial vs other name brand competitor. PetStages' is a little larger so harder to bite on fir small dogs, but seems to be equally durable. While PetStages proudly states it has real wood fiber and scent (whoch I thought would win)... they prefered the other. Both dogs love to chew on real sticks. But, when the bossy one indicated she was taking over the stick the other dog had, they exchanged, and kept chewing, over and over, back and forth. I mean to say, whatever the prefered stick was at first didnt seem to matter later. These super hard chew toys do make me nervous. One dog broke a tooth last summer on a different brand toy, a very expensive extraction bill, and poor pup's terrible discomfort... but the other did not and has amazing white teeth, all around.... so.
