De bolletjestrui voor de Bergkoningen - REDTED

De leider van het bergklassement in de Tour de France wordt sinds 1975 beloond met de bolletjestrui. Joop Zoetemelk was de eerste renner die hem in 1975 om de schouders kreeg. De echte bergkoning van 1975 werd echter Lucien van Impe. De ‘Kleine van Mere’ is de grootste ‘retro’ bergkoning van de Tour, want hij won deze trui maar liefst zes keer.  Hiermee evenaarde hij de Spanjaard Federico Bahamontes. Ook mogen we zeker de Franse renner Richard Virenque niet vergeten. Deze ‘Richard Leeuwenhart’ was maar liefst zeven keer de bergkoning van de Tour de France.

Deze zeer opvallende, clowneske trui werd bedacht door sportjournalist en Tourbaas Félix Lévitan. Met deze opvallende trui wilde Félix de Franse renner Henri Lemoine eren. Henri Lemoine (1909-1991) was een bescheiden man en een grote wielrenner met de bijnaam ‘Petits pois’. Maar Henri Lemoine had het idee van de bolletjestrui weer ergens anders vandaan.
