Oude, antieke landkaart van het oostelijk deel van Centraal-Azië en van West-China ten tijde van het Romeinse Rijk. Titelcartouche rechts boven; talrijke decoratieve taferelen met voorstellingen van onder meer de jacht, tentenkampen en vee zijn verspreid over de kaart aangebracht. Rugzijde blank.
De kaart is gemaakt door Gerard Mercator (1512-1594). In 1578 gaf hij een atlas uit met kaarten die zijn gebaseerd op het werk van Claudius Ptolemaeüs (87-150), de beroemde geograaf uit de Oudheid. Deze kaart is één van de kaarten uit deze atlas. In de loop van de zeventiende eeuw is de oude titelcartouche verwijderd en vervangen door deze cartouche.
Handgekleurde kopergravure, uitgegeven in 1695 te Utrecht door F. Halma in Claudii Ptolemaei Tabulae Geographicae Orbis Terrarum Veteribus cogniti.
