In de Bordeaux streek is Médoc een klasse apart. De regio strekt zich uit over meer dan 80 kilometer en biedt verschillende bodems. De druiven die gebruik zijn in deze Bordeaux rode wijn zijn:

  • 45% Merlot
  • 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 10% Cabernet Franc
  • 5% Petit Verdot

Dit maakt dat deze oude rode wijn goed gerijpt is. De structuur van cabernet sauvignon zorgt voor rijpingspotentie. Daarnaast zorgt de merlot voor sappigheid en de cabernet franc voor donker fruit en kleur.

De ondergrond maakt de Château Carcanieux 1996 een uniek Bordeaux wijn
