Voor het WK Formule 1 van 2018 werd de GT R de officiële veiligheidsauto van de Formule 1. Tijdens de 2020 Grand Prix van Toscane had de Safety Car een rode kleur in plaats van het traditionele zilveren om de 1.000e start van de Grand Prix van Scuderia Ferrari te eren.
