Primaire indicaties:

- Stimuleert de galproductie

Wordt vooral toegepast wanneer de lever niet genoeg gal aanmaakt en het lichaam moeite heeft met het verteren van vetten. Wanneer na het eten van een vette maaltijd problemen komen in de spijsvertering zoals een opgezette buik en een moe gevoel dan is Artisjok het aangewezen kruid.

Secundaire indicaties:

- Lever reiniging

Helpt de lever zichzelf te reinigen en aan te sterken bij een verminderde leverfunctie. Bijvoorbeeld door een infectie, na een intensieve medicijnkuur of door het overmatig gebruik van alcohol.

- Cholesterol verlagend

Helpt het gehalte aan (LDL) cholesterol te verminderen. Hierdoor ook behulpzaam bij atherosclerose.


Waarschuwingen: 
- Zeer veilige plant, wel opletten indien er gevoeligheid optreedt in de spijsvertering.

Contra indicaties:
- Niet geven bij: Obstructies van de galwegen, acute hepatitis, zogende moeders

Interacties:
- Kan het effect van cholesterol verlagende medicijnen versterken

- Kan interacties hebben met anti-aritmica, hartglycosiden en diuretica
