De prachtige wijnstokken alleen al leveren bijzonder druiven op, die een mooie basis vormen voor rode wijnen. Deze Languedoc is daar een mooi voorbeeld van. De druiven Syrah, Grenache en Carignan geven ieder hun unieke visitekaartje af. De druiven zijn afkomstig van de wijngaarden in het dal van de Agly tussen Perpignan en Maury. Dat zorgt voor afwisselende ondergronden, met een overheersend arm karakter, waardoor ze druiven opleveren met veel smaak en kracht. Het klimaat hier in de Roussillon is uitgesproken heet van karakter, waardoor de druiven extra concentratie krijgen.

De droom genaamd Chateau de Gaure

Pierre Fabre besloot in 2004 zijn droom te realiseren en kwaliteitswijnen te gaan maken in de Languedoc. Hij kocht het Chateau de Gaure, een landgoed op slechts dertig minuten ten zuiden van Carcassonne. Met 200 hectare land en een 18e-eeuwse huis in het midden. Het pand dateert uit de prehistorie en was ooit de locatie van een oud Oppidum - een grote verdedigde nederzetting uit de ijzertijd. Verspreid over het terrein zijn talloze relikwieën gevonden. Pierre bezit momenteel 20 hectare in Limoux (voornamelijk Chardonnay, met Chenin Blanc, een beetje Mauzac en nieuwe aanplant van Pinot Noir) en 30 hectare in de Roussillon (voornamelijk Syrah, Grenache en Carignan), waaronder in Tautavel, Lastours en Maury (naar de Languedoc-appellatie). De totale productie is 60.000 flessen en groeit. De blend voor deze Languedoc Rouge aop bestaat uit 34 procent Carignan, 33 procent Syrah en 33 procent Grenache. De druiven worden met de hand geplukt in klein dozen en vervolgens handmatig gesorteerd in de wijnkelder voordat ze worden ontsteeld en geperst. Ze worden vervolgens gefermenteerd in betonnen tanks met inheemse gisten en twaalf maanden grijpt in vaten van drie tot tien jaar oud.

De verleidelijke geur van Chateau de Gaure Languedoc

Het resultaat mag er zeker zijn. Deze Rouge aop kleurt kersenrood in het glas en bij het inschenken komen direct de heerlijke aroma’s vrij dan pruimen, kersen, krentjes, kruiden, tijm en een vleugje vanille. De smaak is rijp en zacht. Elegant en tegelijkertijd sappig. Hij heeft mooie zuren en lichte tannine waardoor hij behoorlijk verleidend is. Kortom een soepel rode wijn die heerlijk smaak bij lamsrollade, pasta of belegen kazen.

These cost a bit more than tennis balls, but they are so much nicer and longer lasting. For starters, they stay cleaner than tennis balls because they’re smooth rubber. Dirt won’t build up on them and if anything does stick, like grass or soil, it falls off once the dog slobber dries. They’re also thick, so they don’t fall apart or blow out like a normal tennis ball does in our dog’s jaws after 30 seconds. Our GS chomps on these like crazy and the only damage they’ve suffered is a crack that developed from the edge of the hole, but the crack is growing very slowly and none of these balls have totally failed yet. The balls do whistle when thrown ant high speed and that may help a dog track and locate it, but I’m not sure. Our neighbors hear the whistling too so it’s far from silent. Lastly the orange ball is easy to locate out in our yard, but the dark blue practically disappears.

Great for smaller dogs

My Dachshunds Love These

These balls are durable, flexible material, highly chewable without being easily destroyed. I stuff them with Milkbone Maro Snacks, which are just the right size to twist into the holes in the ball. My dogs literally get an hour+ chewing and chasing entertainment from these. They chew them, they sometimes 'pop' out of their mouths, go rolling across the floor, dogs chasing them. This satisfies their urge to hunt prey. Dachshunds can easily tear this kind of stuff-it-toy apart. These have lasted for a long time without tearing or shredding. I would NOT recommend them for a dog much larger than a tweenie weenie. They're a bit on the small side and might be swallowed by a larger dog. It would be cool it they also came in a larger size (and probably ball wall thickness also) for the bigger dogs to enjoy. These stuff-it chew balls are better than the kong balls my dogs had before these. Highly recommend them.

My puppy’s favorite fetch toy!

Update Aug 27, 2024: After 10 months, these are still his favorite ball. He’s obsessed with fetching and plays with them all day. They do bounce really high.
