Sartori Valpolicella Ripasso

De Sartori Valpolicella Ripasso is een rijke rode wijn uit Valpolicella, een heuvelachtig gebied ten noordwesten van Verona in Italië. Deze wijn wordt gemaakt van Corvina, Corvinone en Rondinella druiven en ondergaat de traditionele ‘Ripasso’-techniek: een tweede vergisting op de schillen van de Amarone-wijn. Hierdoor krijgt de wijn extra diepte en aroma. Daarna rijpt hij 18 tot 24 maanden in middelgrote en grote eikenhouten vaten, gevolgd door minimaal 6 maanden flesrijping.

De wijn heeft een diepe granaatrode kleur en geurt intens naar zwarte kers, rood fruit, houttonen en kruiden. In de mond is hij vol en fluweelzacht, met een mooie balans tussen fruitigheid, kracht en zachte tannines. Perfect bij wild, stoofgerechten, pasta met rijke sauzen, gegrild vlees of gerijpte kazen. Een ideale keuze voor liefhebbers van krachtige, elegante rode wijnen.

Wijnhuis Sartori di Verona
Sartori di Verona is een familiebedrijf sinds 1898 met diepe wortels in de Verona-regio. Hun wijngaarden liggen op kalkrijke hellingen, wat bijdraagt aan de frisse mineraliteit van de wijnen. In 1898 kocht Pietro Sartori het prachtige Villa Maria, toen een hotel-restaurant, in Negrar (Valpolicella) om er zijn wijnproductie te starten. A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

This book wasn't bad, but wasn't my cup of tea. It's highly disappointing because the storyline is so original. There is no real conflict or resolution, so the entire thing feels flat. As a lover of omegaverse books, I know there is a ton of variety out there, and ov is really up to the author. But this one is weird. Omegas have multiple scent glands all over their bodies and go into week long heats every month. Alphas have knots in the middle of their shaft instead of the base, and the knot doesn't always swell, no explanation of when or why. It doesn't engage at all when the mouth is in play. I also didn't enjoy the author's writing style. Each paragraph is only 1 or 2 sentences long, and the entire book reads very stacato. The conversations are stiff and unnatural feeling. Everything is very repetitive, both in word choice and in thought. The same thing is repeated 3 or 4 times over a single page, multiple times over. I ended up doing so much skimming. The first 50% of the book is all slow burn, and the last 50% is almost straight mediocre spice. This wouldn't have been all bad if the grammar and spelling errors didn't start at the exact same time. Tongue is repeatedly misspelled in the middle of the spice.
