In 1956 ontwierp Benno Premsela het even ingenieuze als eenvoudige ontwerp van de Benno spiegel. Na bijna 70 jaar is de spiegel inmiddels een echt designicoon. Recent is de spiegel onder creatieve leiding van Studio Rens uitgebreid met drie nieuwe bijzondere kleuren en een grotere variant met een doorsnede van 100 cm.

Het verhaal gaat dat Spectrum Premsela vroeg een mooi interieur accessoire te ontwerpen. Premsela keek door de voorraden en half-fabrikaten die Spectrum reeds had en haalde hier een houten ring uit bestemd voor een tafeltje. Hij maakte hier een sleuf in en meldde aan Spectrum dat hij zijn ontwerp klaar had. De Benno spiegel was een feit; echt Dutch design!

De Benno spiegel bestaat uit een beuken multiplex cirkel met een diameter van 50 of 100 cm. Door een gleuf aan de bovenzijde wordt de vierkante spiegel in de lijst geschoven. De lijst is verkrijgbaar met een zwarte, groene of kobaltblauwe beits. Bij Ø 50 cm., meet de spiegel 33,5 x 33,5 cm. bij Ø 100 cm., meet de spiegel 69 x 69 cm.
