IKONIC, een Nederlands designlabel dat speelse designobjecten maakt, heeft met de in 2020 ontstane situatie rondom het COVID-19 ook zo zijn worstelingen gehad. Door het verwerken van geannuleerde en uitgestelde bestellingen en het stopzetten van verzendingen van leveranciers, werd het merk gedwongen om in een andere richting te denken. Wat een oplossing zou kunnen zijn, was om lokaal te produceren, bij voorkeur zonder enorme pre-productie-investeringen.
Met dat in gedachten ontwierp IKONIC-oprichter Maurice Doorduyn de Lucite-serie; speelgoedauto's bestaande uit een stapel lasergesneden acrylplaten, gesneden door de plaatselijke laserdienst. De inspiratie kwam uit auto-ontwerpen met art-decostijl uit het begin van de vorige eeuw.
De combinatie van verschillende plaatdiktes en kleuren zorgt voor een gelaagd ontwerp met diepte, dat verandert door de lichtinval en de kleuren uit de omgeving.
De auto's worden op bestelling gemaakt en worden met de hand geassembleerd.

Now what?
Format: Hardcover
I am a student (not scholar) of WW II history mostly because of the many men and women in my family who served in this war. Holland and Murray bring a new experience to WW II reporting. We know that surrenders happened, and when and where. But this book gives the reader the "then what happened" ? and named individuals and told of their experiences while they struggled to figure out "what next?". They are lucky to be alive but confused as if they were experiencing an altogether new "battle" asking What shall we do? where shall we go, where will we be safe, how do we live now? This is a fascinating view of the joy and the terror and the miracle of having survived.
