Is het een persoonlijk verhaal? Ja, dat zeker. Is het een academisch betoog? Dat ook, bij momenten, waar de onvermijdelijke entropie en het nefaste micromanagement ter sprake komen. Maar je krijgt ook een geleid bezoek aan de bibliotheek van Babel aangeboden, een zot verhaal over oneindigheid, een persoonlijk gekleurde reflectie over wolken en een boeiende saga van het schilderen van een garagevloer. Vloer klaar, boek klaar, dat was het idee, bijna, net niet. Wat te bewijzen viel.

Mia Sheridans thrillers are one of my top favorites, her writing style is so raw and beautiful. I wanted to love this one as much as Bad Mother or All the Little Raindrops but it just didn't hit the same mark for me. The book starts off with a bang, but soon becomes a bit more dormant for the middle portion. I still enjoyed the book, but I think I had a preconceived notion it would be more along those lines, I felt the plot of this one wasn't as suspenseful, it was fairly straight forward which is fine just not what I expected. Or maybe I'm just desensitized from all the thrillers I read. I did love the themes of how trauma, resilience and love weave together, a chance at a do over. I also felt Seraphinas portion was a little clunky and illogical in the overall storyline. Regardless I love Mia Sheridans writing and won't stray away from her thrillers.

A couple of years ago, I was walking down an aisle at the drug store, looking for some way to condition and soften my increasingly graying “girl beard” and I bought Cremo oil thinking if it can work for men’s beards then why can’t it work on other hair. I’m sure that Cremo never envisioned it being used this way but, then again, it all depends what or who’s “beard” you’re talking about doesn’t it? Just saying. Maybe Cremo should start a line for intimate hair called “Private Reserve.” 🤔
