Maartje is gelukkig getrouwd met Roel, van wie ze zielsveel houdt. Nu de kinderen uit huis zijn, genieten ze samen van hun vrije dagen. Als Roel voorstelt om samen een weekje naar Egmond aan Zee te gaan, beseft hij niet wat hij daarmee overhoophaalt. Maartje heeft als jong meisje een tijd doorgebracht in een koloniehuis in Egmond aan Zee. Aan deze periode bewaart ze geen goede herinneringen. Nooit heeft ze begrepen waarom haar moeder haar naar dit tehuis stuurde. Het vroegere koloniehuis is nu een hotel geworden. En uitgerekend dit hotel heeft Roel uitgekozen voor een midweek aan zee.
Als Roel op zomerkamp is, opent Maartje een doos met herinneringen aan het koloniehuis. Het verdriet dat jarenlang diep weggestopt zat, komt met volle kracht naar boven. Maartje ervaart dat dit niet alleen pijnlijk, maar ook helend is.
Deze roman gaat terug naar de jaren vijftig, de bloeitijd van de Nederlandse vakantiekolonies. Om gezondheidsredenen werden elk jaar duizenden kinderen naar zo'n kindertehuis gestuurd. Die zogenaamde bleekneusjes moesten daar minimaal zes weken blijven om aan te sterken.

♦♦ Vanilla Syrup:
● I wanted to reduce the amount of flavored coffee creamer
that I normally use, so I thought I would give DaVinci syrups
a try. This was the first time that I tried and used the DaVinci
brand.
♦♦ Coffee Time:
● I used about half of the coffee creamer that I typically use
and I added a teaspoon or two of DaVinci syrup to my morning
coffee. I gave it a good stir, then took a few sips and there was
plenty of flavor for my liking and it seemed to have a rounder
and had more of a vanilla like taste when comparing it to the
vanilla flavored coffee creamer that I normally use, I definitely
enjoyed the result.
♦♦ Great for Other Uses:
● I also tried this syrup with other drinks such as soft drinks,
cola, orange and root-beer, and a smoothie. All of them of
them were very good, indeed. Give it a try.
● I also added some to plain yogurt and some other foods and
they all tasted really good as well.
♦♦ Ingredients:
Cane Sugar, Water, Natural Vanilla Extract with Other Natural
Flavor, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (preservatives),
Citric Acid, Caramel Color.

● A very affordable price for it's size, especially when compared
to other brands that I've had before.

Comparing to the coffee giant version

Starbucks comparison (from a personal standpoint): I’m fortunate enough to have a bottle of Starbucks Brown Sugar. Problem is, I’m almost out. Looking around at some alternative options, and reading the reviews- I see some saying this is a good substitute. Because I happen to have the syrup on hand, I figured I should see if it is, because it would be great given the low cost of DaVinci syrup. This picture I’m attaching is just to see the color difference.
Consistency wise, the DaVinci syrup is much lighter, more runny. The Starbucks is definitely a thicker liquid, that runs much slower.
Flavor is the big one: DaVinci is lighter on taste, and sweeter. The best way to describe the flavor is comparing DaVinci’s to 100% real maple syrup that’s been diluted down with water. It’s good, but not really similar (in my opinion) to Starbucks Brown Sugar. Starbucks is more smokey in flavor, more strong/bold.
My drinks are made using espresso, oak milk, cinnamon powder, and ice. I made my drink the same way, but used DaVinci Syrup this time. I found that the same amount of syrup that I use for the Starbucks, didn’t feel like it had a strong enough flavor. What did I do? I added an extra ounce of DaVinci hoping to get a stronger flavor. The problem is, DaVinci is more sweet than the Starbucks syrup (in my opinion) and ended up making my drink taste too sweet. It’s sweet enough that I’m not going to finish drinking it.
I’m not knocking the DaVinci syrup itself. I think it’s a good brand and a good flavor. It’s just not the flavor I was hoping would solve my issue for a Starbucks imitation. I would encourage anyone to still try this syrup, but do so to enjoy it for being its own flavor.

Tastes Like Banana Pudding and Dunkin Banana Flavor!

I don't know why someone would buy this expecting it to taste like real bananas like come on ppl lol. The only way to attain a syrup that tastes like real banana bread is to make it at home. This is an artificially flavored syrup so obviously it tastes that way! I have made banana bread syrup (more like a sauce) at home and it is delicious, highly recommend!! But this is way more shelf stable and tastes amazing in an iced latte as well! Different than home made but still good. To me this tastes like banana pudding mix which also has a fake banana taste. It also tastes EXACTLY like the new Dunkin banana flavored syrup which is what I was looking for! I use 1.5 tbsp syrup, a little vanilla paste, 2 espresso shots and 2 percent milk with plenty of ice. I like keeping my latte calories below 200 and not super sweet tho so you can up it to 2 tbsp. The cals in this are not terrible, 70 cals for 2 tablespoons. Usually my syrups have 50-60 cals for only 1 tbsp so I'm pleasantly surprised this is a little lower. I bought a second bottle because I'm afraid this is a limited release lol.
