De beste wijngaarden van wijnhuis August Kesseler

Wijnhuis August Kesseler werd in 1924 opgericht in de Rheingau. De wijngaarden staan aangeplant op de steile hellingen Assmannshäuser Höllenberg en Rüdesheimer-berg Schlossberg. Hier staan voor 75 procent Riesling en voor 35 procent Pinot Noir druiven aangeplant. Het wijnhuis bezit vandaag de dag ruim 30 hectare aan wijngaarden. August is nog steeds volledig eigenaar van het wijndomein en is ook dagelijks in de wijngaarden te vinden. Daar is dan ook de toepasselijke wijnnaam Daily August naar verwezen. De wijnkelder bestaat uit twee verdiepingen uit 1792. Deze is uit rotsen gegraven en biedt het hele jaar de ideale omstandigheden voor het maken van wijn. Kesseler streeft ernaar om koele en minerale wijnen te maken. Bij de productie wordt continu de kwaliteit gewaarborgd en tussentijds regelmatig geproefd. Als de kwaliteit niet hoog genoeg is, dan krijgen de flessen ook niet het etiket van August Kesseler. De Riesling druiven voor deze witte wijn zijn afkomstig van wijnstokken die in Lorch en Rüdesheim zijn aangeplant. Ze zijn gemiddeld 25 jaar oud en profiteren van een bodem bestaande uit leisteen, löss en leem. Dit fundament zorgt voor bijzondere eigenschappen die worden meegegeven aan de trossen. Elk stukje wijngaard wordt apart gevinifieerd. De gisting vindt plaats in roestvrijstalen tanks bij een gecontroleerde temperatuur.

De geur en smaak van August Kesseler The Daily August Riesling

De Riesling kleurt citroengeel in het glas met een mooie groene gloed. We ruiken meteen de aroma’s van citrus, citroen en perzik. Hij is lekker fruitig en sappig van smaak. Het fruitiger karakter heeft een mooi samenspel met de aangename zuren. Het is een perfecte wijn bij de Aziatische keuken, maar ook erg lekker bij asperges.
