Sancerre “Les Boucauds” 2023 is een gelaagde en mondvullende Sauvignon Blanc die rijkdom en precisie uitzonderlijk mooi combineert. In de neus tonen van rijpe citroen, peer en witte perzik, aangevuld met witte bloemen, subtiele kruidigheid en een duidelijke vuursteen- en kalktoets. In de mond is de wijn rond en textuurrijk, maar blijft hij strak en energiek dankzij levendige zuren en een uitgesproken krijtachtige, ziltige spanning. De afdronk is lang, zuiver en mineraal, met een elegante, droge precisie die blijft nazinderen.

Vinificatie.
De druiven worden met de hand geoogst en zorgvuldig geselecteerd. Na zachte persing vergist de most spontaan met inheemse gisten, met minimale interventie om het terroir maximaal te laten spreken. De wijn rijpt lang op de fijne lies om textuur en complexiteit op te bouwen, typisch ongeveer 14 tot 16 maanden, in een combinatie van cuves en (deels) neutrale vaten. Na botteling volgt flesrijping zodat de wijn zijn spanning en volume beter integreert voor vrijgave.

Het domein.
Domaine Claude Riffault behoort tot de absolute top van Sancerre en staat bekend om zijn precieze, terroirgedreven stijl. Het domein wordt biologisch beheerd, met veel aandacht voor biodiversiteit, bodemgezondheid en handmatig werk in de wijngaard. In de kelder wordt zo weinig mogelijk gestuurd: natuurlijke gisten, zachte vinificatie en perceelmatige opvoeding zorgen ervoor dat elke cuvée zijn eigen identiteit behoudt. “Les Boucauds” is een van de kerncuvées van het domein en combineert textuur, mineraliteit en bewaarpotentieel op hoog niveau.

Base seemed nice coming out of the box. Good size, though double check it will work for your needs as my mistake it was just a bit too big. Filled with water, it is a decent base to utilize with an umbrella I feel. Not sure if others' bases had this, too, but mine has some kind of object rolling around the side. No way to get it out. Not sure if when the hole is drilled into the top, it's from that? Also, when filling with water, there were unpleasant fumes coming out. Water mixing with the rubber material on the inside? All that said, for the price, this is a good option to consider for an umbrella base.
