Een geweldige fruitige koffie die wordt verbouwd op 1700 meter hoogte door de Abakundakawa coöperatie in Rwanda (2000+ leden). Met een water- en energiebesparende drievoudige fermentatiemethode, geavanceerde pulprecyclingmethoden en twee vrouwenemancipatieorganisaties is het Rushashi koffiewasstation (CWS) echt vooruitstrevend. Rushashi dient als een uitstekend voorbeeld van hoe Rwandese coöperaties duurzaam kunnen worden door voortdurend de kwaliteit te verbeteren en duurzaam te opereren. Met de hulp van MISOZI, een lokaal privé maar sociaal exportbedrijf, zijn ze in staat om hun geweldige koffies wereldwijd te verkopen.

Abakundakawa onderscheid zich ook doordat de coöperatie vrouwen een belangrijke rol geeft. Onder de leden zijn inmiddels meer dan 740 vrouwen. Ze investeren in gevarieerde landbouw waardoor ze kunnen anticiperen op klimaatverandering. Zo planten ze bijvoorbeeld schaduwrijke planten en fruitbomen tussen de koffiestruiken.

De koffies van de coöperatie hebben al meerdere malen prijzen gewonnen bij de Cup of Excellence competitie.

Je proeft fruit: perzik en nectarine. En een beetje vanille. Sommigen vinden dat deze koffie een alhaast thee-achtige afdronk heeft. Wij branden de bonen niet te donker. Dus geschikt voor filter en espresso.
