De kleur van het gebruikte zand is medebepalend voor de kleur van het eindproduct. Na verloop van tijd slijt de bezanding eraf en krijgt het product zijn uiteindelijke kleur. De getrommelde bakstenen zijn verkrijgbaar in verschillende formaten en kleuren, waardoor aan bijna alle ontwerpmogelijkheden en voorkeuren kan worden voldaan.Deze variant wordt na productie nog bewerkt. De stenen worden machinaal bewerkt in een grote, ronddraaiende trommel. Tijdens dit proces breken kleine stukjes van de randen en hoeken af. Het resultaat is een getrommelde steen. Getrommelde stenen hebben een ruwer oppervlak en onregelmatigheden in de randen en hoeken, waardoor een natuurlijk en authentiek uiterlijk ontstaat. Het ruwere oppervlak zorgt voor een betere grip en voorkomt uitglijden.
