De Kiwi is van zichzelf een matig winterharde plant en is ongeveer winterhard tot -15 graden Celsius. De Kiwi vraagt daarom om een beetje beschutting en zon. Deze kant en klare kiwi-dakboom kan niet in kustgebieden of met veel zeewind geplaatst worden. Ideaal voor een besloten stadstuin of beschutte daktuin. Standplaats en aanplanting van de dakkiwi

De vuistregel bij de meeste fruitstruiken en fruitplanten is dat hoe meer zon, hoe zoeter de vrucht, vaak ook hoe smaakvoller de vrucht zal zijn. Deze dakkiwi staat dus ook graag op een plaatsje in de zon. Kan eventueel ook in de halfschaduw staan, maar zal ten koste gaan van de uitbundigheid van de groei en bloei van de plant. Naast dat de Actinidia van zon houdt, houdt deze plant ook van een goed vochtige en enigsinds kalkrijke bodem. Zorg dus in een droge periode en vooral zomers voor goede bewatering. Wanneer u bij het aanplanten gebruik maakt van universele aanplantgrond, zal de plant haar wortels dieper vestigen nen dus opmlangere termijn ook vanuit dieper water zal gaan halen.

Jonge kiwi planten zijn slecht bestend tegen vorst, in dit geval adviseren wij een laag mulch aan te leggen om deze jonge planten te beschermen tegen vorstbeschadigingen.
