Van Cliburns opmerking: ‘Richter heeft het krachtigste pianospel dat ik ooit heb gehoord’ is hier zeker van toepassing. Zijn interpretaties van de sonates van Beethoven zijn opvallend modern en de artistieke vrijheid, technische genialiteit en liefde voor de muziek die in deze opnames tot uiting komen zijn fenomenaal.
