Girard legde zich vooral toe op textielontwerp, maar hij wordt ook geprezen voor zijn grafisch werk en voor zijn meubel-, tentoonstellings- en interieurontwerpen. Girard bracht een vleugje speelsheid in het design van de twintigste eeuw - iets wat ontbrak in de strenge esthetiek van het klassieke modernisme.

Girard oogstte veel belangstelling met zijn interieurontwerp voor het legendarische Miller House, waarvoor hij elk voorwerp persoonlijk uitzocht. Het hart van het huis was de zogenaamde 'conversation pit', een verzonken zithoek in de woonkamer, bekleed met stoffen van Girard en opgesmukt met kussens die speciaal voor deze plek waren vervaardigd.

Het Embroidered Pillow is aangenaam stevig en is versierd met het verfijnd motief 'Home Sweet Home', dat Vitra samen met de familie Girard selecteerde uit de uitgebreide verzameling stoffen en motieven van de hand van de ontwerper.
