The T-10 was the final tank in the IS (Iosif Stalin) tank series and significantly improved upon the design of the IS-3 that had terrified the west only a few years earlier.

Designed to be used as a breakthrough tank where it could fight effectively in a mobile battle, the T-10 was equipped with a new generation stabiliser that allowed the gunner to get the enemy tank in his sights, wait for the gun and stabiliser to stop wobbling and then fire. This did result in a slower rate of fire compared with previous designs, but it proved to be much more accurate when firing on the move.

Continuous Improvement
The T-10 featured the next generation of the 122mm gun used on the IS-3, but thanks to improvements in design and ammunition it was now capable of defeating the latest western tank designs.

Independent Tank Regiments
Designed to be used en-masse wherever needed, the arrival of the T-10 to a battlefield was a sure sign that it was the focus of a major push by Soviet commanders.
