8vo. Publisher’s black cloth with small silver illustration to front board and lettered in silver to spine, illustrated dust jacket by Searle with printed price of 15s. to front flap; pp. [12], 77, [3]; toning to jacket, wearing and a little creasing to jacket edges with slight chipping to crown and base of spine, stain to back flap and rear endpaper, bumping to crown and base of spine and slight wearing to cloth at edges; very good.

First Searle illustrated edition, inscribed by the author.

A Phoenix Too Frequent is a one-act stage comedy in bank verse. It was originally produced at the Mercury Theatre, London in 1946. The action is based on Petronius’ story of the Ephesian widow who is determined to die upon her husband’s tomb. However, she is prevented from killing herself by a young soldier; his introduction to the action brings with it many conflicts.

The play was first published in 1946. This edition, with the haunting and brilliant illustrations by Ronald Searle, was published in 1959. This copy has been inscribed by Christopher Fry in blue ink to the front free endpaper. His message reads, "To Willy and Talli for Christmas 1959 with much love from Phyl and Christopher.”

Very disappointed
Unfortunately I ended up being very disappointed with this purchase, after about two weeks of use, it just stopped performing. Not sure what happened but it just stopped releasing the ball and I don't know why, it had no flexibility left to it. I'm not doing a very good job of trying to explain why it quit working but suffice it to say, it became useless after a couple of weeks. Broke my neighbors dog's heart, lol.

Quality dog toy
Color: Blue, Pattern Name: Toucan
My dog loves this toy. He is a chewer and this toy has been durable is still in one piece after several months of attempted destruction. I will be buying again from this company. Quality stuff and good price.

Puppies love!!
Color: Green, Pattern Name: Dinosaur
Our mixed mutt dogs are aggressive chewers and destroy every toy! This one was reasonably priced and is still together! The girls love their baby! One of the best toys I’ve found!

Dogs love it, but it lasted 10 minutes
Color: Blue Yellow, Pattern Name: Alligator
Five stars for the dogs both loving this thing. I have a Catahoula/pitbull and a Great Pyrenees/Red Heeler. They absolutely loved this toy but it only lasted about ten minutes before it was pulled apart and losing its innards. They didn’t really care - they each took half and proceeded to tear it to shreds with great joy. Two stars for durability, but since they’re big dogs who are happiest when chewing on things I figure the toy deserves to be rounded up from a three to a four. Small dogs probably would still love it without the strength to yank it apart so quickly.
