A small hand loop or something may have helped. But I also think it’s something you can just get used to. I found them easier to use and keep a hold of whilst facing the water. The white rougher side is really nice and after scrubbing with it, you really feel clean. You can really feel your pores come alive when you're rinsing the suds away. I've only used the rough side. Now the disappointing part is that the cloth is just too damn small. Men with larger hands will have a hard time keeping the cloth in your hand - it's not big enough to drape over your hand so it scrunches up quite a bit when you're really trying to get a good scrub with it. If they made these in a larger size I would easily give it a "5".
