This ample Cardigan, named in honor of the ultimate dandy, Beau Brummell, the 19th Century Englishman with a subdued and modern sense of dress, showcases subtle and understated details with it’s textured striping where the material itself becomes the focus (exchanging a single yarn stripe with a stripe where both yarns are held together), a simple stitch pattern and decorative finishing.
The sloped raglan shoulder gives a natural looking and well fitting shape to the yoke, while accelerated short-rows in the integrated neckband allow for generous draping and fuller volume at the reversible patterned neckline that slowly flows into the hem and pockets and continue in the same texture.
Extra long sleeves gradually become transparent and flow into a delicate repetition of the stitch pattern in their lower part. The sleeves can be worn folded up to show the reverse side of the simple knit/purl stitch pattern.
Rililie says, "For CC it is advised to use lace yarn in either silk, cotton, linen or similar material, that enhances the textured striping and that holds it’s shape after blocking, so that the longer and heavy merino garment won’t grow too much in length after washing. When substituting yarn please make sure that the yardage is similar to the one stated in the pattern and that you get gauge, to end up with a garment with a fit similar to the pictured sample." ALTERNATE YARNS: Arroyo by Malabrigo (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/335 yds): 5 (6, 6, 7) Skeins. -AND- Kidsilk Haze by Rowan (70% Kid Mohair / 30 Silk; 25g/230 yds): 5 (5, 6, 7) Skeins. Shown in Aguas & Smoke. Arroyo has a beautiful variegation produced from kettle-dying the yarn in small batches. This will provide extra visual texture in the finished garment but may hide the mohair striping.
