It's about 60% heartwood, and the sapwood has the attractive patterns of slightly spalted Walnut. The heartwood has a few zones of spalting to a deep chocolate brown color. There are occasional black spalting lines that cross cut the wood grain. The grain on this block is rotated 90 degrees, such that the grain pattern

Black Walnut Block BW-411 2.4" x 2.4" x 8.2" 1.2 lbs. This is a beautiful spindle of slightly spalted, Texas-grown Black Walnut. It's about 60% heartwood, and the sapwood has the attractive patterns of slightly spalted Walnut. The heartwood has a few zones of spalting to a deep chocolate-brown color. There are occasional black spalting lines that cross-cut the wood grain. The grain on this block is rotated 90 degrees, such that the grain pattern is perpendicular to the long axis of the block. This is a nice, solid block of Texas-grown Black Walnut. It's been dried to 10-12% moisture content. Tips broke in the binding post

UPDATE:
Two tips broke off when unplugging them from the binding post and are now lodged in. Inexcusable and an utterly poor product.
Solid connection in the binding post with no wobble or wiggle. They require some force to insert into the binding post, but once they're in they remain snug. I also tried removing and reinserting a few times and the connection remained solid. I've used other plugs in the past that have a softer tip and easily deform after one or two insertions. These do not have that issue.
