Heartwood dominates the block, approximately 75% of the volume, and it gradually lightens in color toward the sapwood. The grain is gently curving and swirls tightly around small, scattered knots. The block has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. Density of this piece is 44 lbs/ft3. There is a single, fine crack associated with a knot, and there are two shallow end-grain cracks -- see close-up photos. You may wish to reinforce them with thin CA glue.
