Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent by Refused is a blistering manifesto - raw, urgent, and impossible to ignore, capturing a band on the brink of revolution.
Originally released in 1996 on Burning Heart Records, this album marked a pivotal escalation in Refused’s sound and ideology. Bridging hardcore punk fury with sharper political intent, it laid the groundwork for the seismic impact they would later unleash. This Limited Edition pressing on opaque blue vinyl adds a collector-ready visual punch to an already incendiary record.
From the opening assault of Rather Be Dead to the anthemic rage of Return To The Closet, the album thrives on velocity and conviction. Tracks like Caught In A Trap and Worthless Is The Freedom Bought push beyond standard hardcore templates, weaving in dissonant riffs, tempo shifts, and shouted manifestos that feel as confrontational now as they did decades ago. Dennis Lyxzén’s vocals cut through with razor clarity, equal parts protest and provocation.
There’s a restless experimentation here - moments of groove, flashes of melody, and an undercurrent of controlled chaos that keeps everything teetering on collapse. It’s not just loud - it’s purposeful, challenging listeners as much as it energizes them.
This edition doesn’t just preserve a classic - it amplifies its urgency. For collectors and fans alike, it’s a vivid reminder that some records aren’t meant to age quietly - they’re meant to keep burning.
