The Willett family s distilling legacy in Kentucky spans five generations, beginning shortly after the Civil War with John David Willett, followed by his son Lambert Willett, who worked at various distilleries before the family established their own in 1936. Three years after prohibition ended, Thompson Willett began constructing what is now known as the Willett Distillery on the family s hog and cattle farm, and by 1937, the first barrel of whiskey was produced. Today, under the leadership of Even and Martha Willett Kulsveen, their children Britt and Drew Kulsveen continue the family tradition of crafting a diverse range of whiskeys and bourbons, including brands such as Willett Pot Still Reserve, Johnny Drum, Old Bardstown, Noah s Mill, Rowan s Creek, Pure Kentucky, Kentucky Vintage, and the Willett Family Estate collection. The tawny whiskey offers a nose of black tea, cedar, leather, oak, spice, vanilla, and a sooty hint. On the palate, it delivers eucalyptus, earthy notes, vanilla, cherry, and prominent rye grain flavors. The medium to long finish brings a salty touch, maple syrup sweetness, and woodsy notes reminiscent of a Pacific Northwest rainforest.
