Tasting Notes

Cocktail Suggestion

The Chairman's Mai Tai is a modern twist on the classic Mai Tai that features Chairman's Reserve Original Rum. To make this cocktail, combine 2 oz. of Chairman's Reserve Original Rum, 1 oz. of orange curaçao, 3/4 oz. of lime juice, 1/2 oz. of orgeat syrup, and 1/4 oz. of simple syrup in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint and a wedge of lime.

Kate Gerwin recommends Chairman’s Reserve Original Rum, aged 3–5 years in ex-bourbon barrels, for its fine quality, deep notes of caramelized fruit, and distinct St. Lucia style. But as Kate says, one of “the most unique aspect of Chairman’s Reserve, besides the fact that they don’t add additives, is that they don’t emphasize age statements—because the late ‘Chairman,’ Laurie Barnard, believed that no single barrel of rum could ever be better or as interesting as a blend of different components. Chairman’s utilizes three different pot stills of varying types and sizes and a column still, which provides lots of different charactered distillates to create their blends.”

Chairman's Reserve Original Rum is made from a blend of double distilled pot still and continuous still rums that have been aged separately for at least 5 years in ex-bourbon barrels. The rum is then blended and bottled at 40% ABV. The Chairman's Reserve distillery is located in Saint Lucia and has been producing award-winning rums since 1999.
