Its color is a soft tan to peachy light brown color with subtle darker brown streaks of mineralization and a bit of black line spalting. The wood grain has a pleasant and gracefully flowing pattern. Pecan Bowl Blank P-468 2" x 6" x 6" 1.7 lbs. This is a small, shallow half-log bowl blank of Texas-grown Pecan wood. Its color is a soft tan to peachy light brown color with subtle darker-brown streaks of mineralization and a bit of black-line spalting. The wood grain has a pleasant and gracefully flowing pattern. It has nearly complete bark on the back side, although it is a bit loose and needs to be secured prior to turning. This half-log bowl blank should be suitable for a bowl 6" in diameter and up to 2" deep. With the bark on the backside, you have the option of turning a conventional bowl or a "barky" natural-edge bowl. However, if you want a full bark edge on the "natural" rim, you will need to secure the bark with CA glue before and possibly during turning. This piece is GREEN to partially air-dried, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. Moisture content was 20-25% when measured in May, 2022. It has been well-sealed and is in the process of slowly drying. It was heat-treated to kill off any hungry critters that may have been burrowing inside. If you need a current moisture content, please message us and we'll check its status for you. This is a classic half-log blank, split through the center of the log. I'm taking plenty of photos of this piece, so please scroll down below the first 3 photos to see more. About the Tree This Texas-grown Pecan tree was harvested in Fresno Texas in December, 2021. It was in a residential neighborhood where it had been planted near a home that was built in the 1930s. Over the years, the small Pecan tree grew large, and it threatened the house. The homeowners reluctantly called their tree company to cut down the tree and stack the wood for us to recover. We're always happy to save wood from the firepit or city dump. Their trash is now yours to treasure! |

My powerchewer of a dog destroys plushies in 10 minutes and most other 'tough chew' toys don't last more than a day or two - at most. But he loves his hedgehog and hasn't managed to destroy it! Sure, it has a plethora of teeth marks, but it's in one piece and he hasn't managed to bite off any chunks (I was worried about the hedgies nose 😂). It stands up to his teeth and allows him to satisfy his need to gnaw & chew, safely.

Excellent, But Not Strong Enough

This has become the most engaged my dog has ever been with a toy. He chewed these acorns for an hour and a half STRAIGHT. Sadly, he was able to shred both acorns by this time.
For dogs with a normal chewing and shredding amount, this toy would be perfect. However, for a super chewer like our dog (Lab/Malamute), it seems like we're going to need something stronger...

A favorite for my small destroyers

My small destroyer dogs LOVE these toys and are always surprised to find another toy after the first and second violent de-stuffing. Definitely a supervision toy for safety, but my terriers love doing their thing when these come out and they last much longer than I had anticipated. Color, design and value all as described, however I literally do not remember if it did squeak because the squeaker would be the first thing gone
