This 1987–1997 Canadian Proof Silver Loon Dollar was issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the loon dollar. The sterling silver Flying Loon was issued singly and were sold by the Numismatic Department of the Royal Canadian Mint as limited editions during 1997.
Canadian artist Jean-Luc Grondin chose to portray the loon in that dramatic moment of simple primitive power just before flight. The back bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.
