24 × 27 in.

An expressive harbor scene by Edward C. Plyler featuring moored fishing boats set against a densely layered waterfront of abstracted buildings and reflections. Rich passages of deep blue, ochre, charcoal, red, and pale turquoise create a lively interplay of color and texture across the surface, while loose brushwork and scraped layers lend the composition movement and atmosphere. The painting balances architectural structure with painterly spontaneity, capturing both the energy and softness of a working coastal harbor.

About the Artist:
Edward C. Plyler (1925–2002) was an Alexandria, Virginia designer, collector, and artist best known as co-founder of Edward C. Plyler & Associates, a prominent Washington, D.C. interior design firm established in the late 1950s. Alongside partner Joseph Cipolari, Plyler became known for sophisticated traditional interiors and worked with prominent private and public clients throughout Washington and beyond. Deeply immersed in the worlds of design, architecture, antiques, and fine art, Plyler’s artistic work reflects a strong sensitivity to color, composition, and atmosphere, often blending painterly abstraction with recognizable architectural and coastal forms.
