Dive into the world of crime and intrigue with 'Nothing But Murders and Bloodshed and Hanging', a captivating collection of historical crime stories by Mary Fortune. This trade paperback, published by Verse Chorus Press in 2025, is an essential addition to any crime fiction lover's library. With over 500 stories featuring murder mysteries and locked-tent whodunits, Fortune was a pioneer in detective fiction, being the first woman to transcend the genre. Discover the gripping tales that reflect the brutal realities of life in colonial Australia from 1865 to 1910, as Fortune’s narratives tackle themes of violence, social justice, and the human condition, characterized by a raw realism that was groundbreaking for her time. Each of the 17 selected stories, expertly curated by historians Lucy Sussex and Megan Brown, unveils Fortune's unique ability to weave melodrama, Gothic horror, and early noir elements into her storytelling. From eerily rising corpses to vengeful seamstresses turned sleuths, explore how Fortune's insights into crime, society, and gender norms continue to resonate today. 'Nothing But Murders and Bloodshed and Hanging' is not just a book; it's a historical journey through the depths of human nature, showcasing the struggles and resolve of a woman who forever changed the landscape of crime fiction. Uncover a literary treasure that had nearly slipped through the cracks of history and delve into the heart-pounding excitement today!

Not the best, but not the worst either
Format: Hardcover
By any means not the funniest book in the series, only the one on Krusty the Clown was more un-funny; but still a worthy addition to your collection and, just like all the others from the series providing a retrospective of anecdotes you might have forgotten.

Not that great
Huge "The Simpsons" fan. I watched all the episodes and read a lot of the comics and enjoy most. This one however was quite boring. Turns out I'm just not a big fan of Chief Wiggum. I really enjoyed The "Homer" and "Bart" book. But not this one. Maybe if you love Wiggum you'll love it. If you're not too fond of him then I wouldn't buy it.

Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.
