First collective edition of the permitted works of Ferrante Pallavicino, including the first edition of his biography by Girolamo Brusoni, with a distinguished provenance.

Ferrante Pallavicino (1615-1644), a writer from Piacenza, was notorious for his biting satirical attacks on the Church of Rome. “Pallavicino was the only Italian author of his epoch capable of a coherent vision that integrated satire, scepticism, and naturalistic morality” (Muir, p. 90). His scurrilous and often obscene works, including attacks on Pope Urban VIII and the Jesuits, led to his arrest in Venice in 1641, though he was released after six months. Following the publication of La retorica delle puttane (“The Whore’s Rhetoric”, 1642), an anti-Jesuit work and masterpiece of seventeenth-century pornography, he fled to Bergamo. In 1644 he was lured to France by the promise of a post under Cardinal Richelieu, but was betrayed in Avignon, arrested by Vatican agents, and beheaded.

This four-volume edition collects only Pallavicino’s works that had escaped censorship by the Roman Inquisition. Each is separately titled and paginated, suggesting they were also sold individually. Among them are Il prencipe hermafrodito (“The Hermaphrodite Prince”, inspired by an unidentified Spanish source), La Susanna (on the corruption of judges), and La Bersabee (on King David’s passion for Bathsheba). The set also includes the first edition of Girolamo Brusoni’s biography of Pallavicino, listing both his banned and permitted works. A close friend and associate of Pallavicino, Brusoni provides one of the principal contemporary accounts of the writer’s life and literary output.

Provenance: From the library of Johann Heinrich von Prieser (1749-1801), Augsburg Council consul and book collector, with his ownership inscription dated 1788. The volumes later entered the library of polymath Edward Heron-Allen (1861-1943) and his wife Marianna (née Lehmann, d. 1902). A translator, scientist, and scholar of Persian literature, Heron-Allen is best known for his translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (1899). He and Marianna collaborated on literary translations until her premature death.

A Diabetic Traveler's Best Friend at the Hot Springs!
Size: 13-14 Women/12-13 Men, Color: Black-w001
I'll be honest — I bought these almost last minute before heading out on vacation to the Hot Springs in Carson City, Nevada. As someone with diabetes, I have to be really careful about my feet, especially on rough or hot concrete surfaces. Pool decks and spa areas can be brutal, and I've had too many close calls just walking around barefoot. I grabbed these water shoes almost as an afterthought, and they ended up being one of the best decisions of the whole trip. From the moment I slipped them on, I could tell they were going to do the job. They fit true to size — no awkward sizing guesswork — and they hugged my feet snugly without feeling restrictive or causing any pressure points (a big deal for me). The sole gave me just enough protection from the concrete and wet surfaces around the springs, and I never once felt like I was going to slip. That peace of mind alone was worth every penny. They're lightweight enough that I barely noticed I had them on, and they dried quickly after getting splashed or submerged. No heavy, waterlogged feeling dragging me down. I wore them in and out of the water all day and my feet felt totally fine — no soreness, no irritation, nothing. For someone managing diabetes, that's honestly huge. I genuinely have zero complaints. These delivered exactly what they promised and then some. Whether you're headed to a hot spring, a beach, a pool, or just doing some light water yoga, these are a solid buy. Hope this helps!

Great water socks
Size: 8.5-9.5 Women/7.5-8.5 Men, Color: Shark Blue
Perfect! I’m autistic and this was the last piece of the puzzle for my sensory experience at the pool. They feel like wearing socks with hard soles on and are great for if you need to walk through gravel or anything. They don’t trap water much and the fabric is stretchy and comfortable. I liked the range of colors, I got the one with sharks. I wear a men’s size 8 shoe and I got the same size here, it was the correct size with a little extra room.

Colorful, comfortable, durable water shoes
Size: 8.5-9.5 Women/7.5-8.5 Men, Color: Shark Blue, Size: 8.5-9.5 Women/7.5-8.5 Men, Color: Shark Blue
I have ordered 5 pairs of these water shoes. The quality is amazing the bottom is durable, the stitching feels strong, they are comfortable, slip resistant, fit true to size and look awesome! We ordered the paisley, the blue geo, galaxy, lightning (lightning was sent back as we received the wrong size) and sharks. Only reason they are getting a 4 star instead of 5 is because I would much rather have the cushion inside sewn in instead of it being like an insert but that is what I find to be most common with these type of shoes.

Love these for beach foot protection!!
Size: 10-11 Women/9-10 Men, Color: Black-w001
These water shoes were perfect for our cruise to Grand Turk. The beach was a little rocky once in the water & the bottom of these shoes protected our feet and made it comfortable they dry quickly they are lightweight and easy to pack and carry in a beach bag. I bought two pair of the black one for me one for my husband, and he even wore them which was shocking into me and loved them.!!!! they don’t have walking support so they’re definitely something that you bring with you put on your feet before you enter like water where you can’t see the bottom or rocks/coral and they totally protect your foot on the bottom

I received someone else’s returned product
Size: 7-8 Women/6-7 Men, Color: Sunset
The inner product packaging was already cut open and not sealed, and there was debris inside the socks: clear indicators that the pair I received was someone else’s return. They also run big and are very wide in the toe area. My daughter’s pair also ran big, but at least hers were sealed. Overall quality is a bit flimsy, so we’ll see how long they last.
