The Variegated Euphorbia ammak, opens in a new tab is a striking succulent known for its sculptural form and beautiful variegation. When grown from cuttings, this plant develops strong, resilient stems that take on its characteristic upright, branching structure. These cuttings are an excellent way to propagate the plant, ensuring a genetically identical replica of the parent plant. With proper care, they root quickly and develop into impressive specimens, making them a popular choice for collectors and arid landscape enthusiasts.

Native to the Saudi Arabian Peninsula and Yemen, this Euphorbia cutting is distinguished by its striking variegated stems, which display a mix of creamy white, green, and sometimes yellow hues. The upright, candelabra-like structure makes it a standout feature in any landscape or indoor collection.

When fully grown, the Variegated African Candelabra can grow up to 20 feet in ideal outdoor conditions. Indoors, however, it typically grows to a more manageable height of 8 feet, depending on pot size and care. Over time, the plant develops thick, segmented branches that create a dramatic silhouette.

Though this plant is primarily grown for its structural beauty, it can produce small, inconspicuous yellow-green flowers along the ridges of its branches. Flowering is more common in mature specimens and typically occurs during the warmer months.

How do you care for Euphorbia ammak Variegata, opens in a new tab

  1. Light: Place it near a bright window with at least six hours of sunlight daily.
  2. Soil: Use a well-drained succulent mix soil to prevent root rot.
  3. Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during the winter months.
  4. Indoor Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions, ideally between 65-85°F. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
  5. Outdoor USDA Zones: In the United States, this is mostly an indoor plant, but if you live in southern Florida or Hawaii then you can cultivate it outdoors in USDA zones 9-11.
  6. Fertilizer: Feed with NPK fertilizer once a year in the spring to encourage healthy growth.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Variegated African Candelabra is a visually striking and resilient plant that thrives in both indoor and outdoor settings. Its ability to adapt to arid conditions, combined with its stunning variegation and unique growth habit, makes it a prized addition to any succulent collection. With minimal maintenance, this plant provides long-term beauty and architectural interest.

BRIGHT EYES OPENED WIDE
Format: Hardcover
This easy to read book for 3-7 yr olds is very moves easily through the story's tale and is so colorful! I introduce it to my toddler class during circle time and their facial expressions were exciting with the turn of every page. After hearing and seeing the tale told; they had many questions. I enjoyed it just as much as my toddlers.
