ABOUT THE WEBINAR

Why can some screenwriters make a huge sale on their first script and keep selling while other equally talented screenwriters who have difficulty getting their scripts even read? Your scripts face many barriers before they get in the hands of a person who can green light it.

This webinar will help you gain insight on what will get a script read and then championed from the inside. Learn how your script is more than just a blueprint for a film to get made-it also functions as a sales tool!

Mike Sargent is rare in that he is a filmmaker who became a nationally quoted film critic. In the last 15 years, during his time 'on the other side' his experience of being 'under cover' as a filmmaker among film critics has has given him a much deeper understanding of how the industry works from top to bottom (or farm to table as it were) in regards to selling your movie and what to keep in mind from the time you conceive of your script to the time it's going to be read, sold, produced, marketed, and packaged to the media who ultimately will be helping sell it to the general public.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

  • The importance and true role of a logline within the 'studio system,' agency, or production company.
  • How to improve readers' experience of your script and make your script stand out from the rest.
  • How to develop your brand and your voice.
  • How are you can make your script talk to directly the reader.
  • How to create a deeper engagement with your characters and storylines.
  • How to get others to sell your script for you.
  • How to literally create a must read screenplay.
  • When to and not to break the 'narrative fourth wall.'
  • How your logline can make everybody's job easier.
  • How to do your homework about the industry before you submit your script.
  • The two stages of success for any artist.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Screenwriters who have been unable to get past a certain point with getting their scripts read.
  • Beginning and intermediate screenwriters who want to know some screenplay hacks to get their screenplays to stand out from the pile.
  • Any screenwriter who wants to create a better reading experience for their scripts.
  • Advanced screenwriters who have the craft down but have been yet unable to make a sale.
  • Screenwriters who want to have a deeper understanding of how the movie business works.
  • Screenwriters who are open to practical aspects of being a screenwriter that they don't teach you in writing classes.
  • Screenwriters who want a competitive edge.
  • Screenwriters who know how to write but not how to sell.
  • Screenwriters who have come close and gotten interest but never cross the finish line.
  • Screenwriters who think the logline is just for your pitch.

Great message that the kids listen to
Format: Hardcover
I love the message and my kids (3 and 5) find it credible and engaging, so it's a win all around. I find the illustrations (which are either done by a 5 year old or an adult as talented an artist as I am) painful but I give the text 6 out of 5 stars so when I take a star off for the over-the-top illustrations we're still at 5/5 ;) Kids who have greater access to exclusively modern media with intense graphics may not be able to relate to the material: the graphics are a big hurdle and the text is pretty dated too. I'm sure an updated version would be even more engaging for my kids but what it lacks in exciting, current graphics it makes up for in specificity and clarity for my two.

Entertaining and helpful lessons
Format: Hardcover
My family loves this book. Used to read it to my daughter as a young girl and now she’s a teen. We still talk about the lessons learned in this book! The characters and illustrations crack me up: Smash, rip and ruin taught us a lot! And the ones without hands and noses! I couldn’t believe how long ago this book was written when we got it- all lessons still applicable today.

Fun Way to Teach Manners
Format: Hardcover
This book was one I read to my daughters when they were young and I am now reading it to my grandsons. I plan to read it to my fourth grade class, as well.

... over with my 3yo and 5yo boys but they loved it!
Format: Hardcover
I wasn't sure how this would go over with my 3yo and 5yo boys but they loved it!! They always enjoy pulling it out and now I can refer back to the characters to remind them of their manners in a more positive way. The only thing is I kinda wish they had used a different animal than pig, since for some reason I don't like saying "don't be like the pigs" (since I don't really want them calling eachother or other kids pigs). But so far it has been fine :) It's also very nice they included "Be kind to animals, they have feelings too." We say that all the time around here since we have kitties. Also the part about table manners is great since we had already been teaching the kids to ask before being excused from the table.

Manners Can Be Fun
Format: Hardcover
What a cute book! I bought it for my 2 and 3 year old boys. We are attempting to teach them simple, common manners in a fun way and they love learning through books. Manners Can Be Fun presents manners in a simple, easy to understand, engaging way. The boys enjoy reading this book and it's a great way to have positive conversations about specific situations they experience daily like sharing toys, picking up after themselves, whining, meal time. It's a fun book!
