Se nos va hacer tarde! Apurarse!
For the next two hours, we'll be in the car driving--past tamale vendors (my favorite part), through la linea (my least favorite part), and across the US border. That's how we get to school every day. This is our normal. Vamos!
In a winning, sunny voice in a bright, friendly palette, debut author-illustrator Sendy Santamaria tells the story of one girl's commute--a commute Sendy herself made growing up as an American citizen living in Mexico. Yenebi's Drive to School takes readers on a trip to school that many will recognize as very similar to their own.
WE NEED DIVERSE BOOKS: This book is from a young, up-and-coming artist of color. By reflecting and celebrating the daily details of a child that reflects the author's experience, it is a work that is universal and inviting--truly a mirror, a window, and a door.
TIMELY TOPIC: An accessible approach to a serious (and seriously underdocumented) part of American life for many young readers. Teachers, librarians, and parents will appreciate the way this book blends the importance of current events in an easily understandable narrative that kids will enjoy following along with.
FAMILY-CENTRIC: The journey described in this story--a loving family's daily trip to school--is timeless and relatable, yet wonderfully specific.
UNIQUE EXPERIENCES: Like Last Stop on Market Street, this book leans into the narrator (and creator)'s very particular experience and yet makes the individuality of such an experience highly relatable, communicating to readers that even their most personal routines are part of what connects them with all humans. Young readers who take the bus to school or get driven a few blocks by their parents will see what makes them similar to kids like the author, even if the shape of their routines are different.
FRESH APPROACH TO A CLASSIC TOPIC: The author turns the "back to school" trope on its head by making the book all about the trip, rather than focusing on apprehension or excitement about school itself.
Perfect for:
- Teachers and librarians looking for Latinx picture books
- Parents looking for bilingual content and bicultural kids' books
- Kids who want to read about experiences different than their own
- Fans of Dreamers, Our Class is a Family, and The Name Jar

Good quality bags
I'm far from a professional coffee roaster, but I do enjoy it. I used to use just little plastic bags when giving coffee to friends and family, but these work so much better! They are quite thick and just feel like they're quality.
I do not have a mylar sealer, but I did figure out that a vacuum heat sealer will work. Just gotta run the heat part a couple times. Probably not as good as a real mylar sealer, but it works. Again, I'm not professional.
I like that, being black bags, they include a roll of labels. Hard to write on black, so this was a nice addition. Overall, these are great bags.

The valve allows for the release of carbon dioxide gas while preventing oxygen from entering the bag
Note that you will need a heat sealer to seal these bags.
The high-barrier aluminum foil construction of these bags provides excellent protection against moisture, oxygen, and light, which are the primary factors that can degrade the quality and freshness of coffee beans. The side zipper design and heat sealable feature ensure a tight seal, effectively preventing any air from entering or escaping the bag. The inclusion of a valve allows for the release of carbon dioxide gas while preventing oxygen from entering the bag, further preserving the flavor and aroma of the coffee beans. These bags are really great for storing coffee.

Nice design, easy to pour, smooth coffee.
This is a really great design. We've been using this since July of 2024 and it's come in really handy for daily coffee making. Much smoother than a drip machine, and less coffee is needed. This starts the journey coffee making artisans.

Just the perfect size!
Love the size of the carafe. Smaller than expected but that was what I was hoping for. A good 2½ to 3 cups full. Looks modern and Chic and blends in with all the other stainless steel appliances in my kitchen.

It's nice, but the glass is super thin
Everything about this is built really well, except the glass. I'll get into the glass at the end of this, so stick with me.
The stand is real heavy and overbuilt if you ask me, but that makes it super stable. The rubber mat on the bottom is a nice touch. The rubber that holds the metal cone on the stand keeps it stable too. The cone works great with #4 coffee filters (I've got a mess of them). They're a bit big but they still fit. I actually use it a lot of times without the stand because I weigh my water as I add it. The cone fits nicely right in the top of the glass.
The glass though. It's SUPER thin. I've had a Chemex knock-off that was slightly thicker than this break just from setting it on the counter wrong. I'm just waiting for this thing to shatter on me for no reason. This would be a great unit if that glass wasn't so thin.
