Madrona Bowl Blank Md-44 3" x 7" x 11" 7.1 lbs. This is a half-log bowl blank of Pacific Madrone wood taken from a crotch, which is the node at which two branches come together. The wood from this tree has a beautiful ivory tone with very fine grain. The crotch in this bowl blank captures a wispy feather figure. This bowl blank is thicker at one end than the other. On the crotch end where the two branches diverge, the blank is 2" to 2.5" thick. At the annotated end, the blank is 3.4" thick. The bark is complete and well-attached, so you have the option of turning either a conventional bowl or a "barky" natural-edge bowl. If you want a full bark edge on the natural rim, you will need to secure the bark with CA glue before and possibly during turning. This is a GREEN to partially air-dried bowl blank, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. It has been well-sealed with Anchor Seal and is in the process of slowly drying; this process can take years if leave it in log form. It was measured at 35% moisture content in January 2023. If you need a current moisture content, please message us so that we can check its status for you. This is a nice, solid bowl blank. I do not see any flaws or areas of concern. About the Tree This Madrona tree was blown down during a snowstorm that hit San Juan Island in December 2022. It lived on the west side of the island, near Lime Kiln State Park, a famous orca watching location. |

It is worth purchasing a Protection Plan on an unfamiliar item
Bought a 3-year protection plan for a nut milk maker machine for $5.99. It was a fairly new kitchen item in our household and we were not familiar with the brand. So, I bought the plan for a piece (peace) of mind. The machine worked nicely for about 18-20 months with daily use until it tripped the circuit outlet.
My initial chat with Asurion did not go as I expected due to discrepancy on their end as they see a protection plan for the nut milk maker as a sporting goods valued between $100-$199, not as a kitchen item valued between $30-$39.99. ( I had bought 3 different protection plan on th same day for multiple items purchased on Prime Days). They were looking at a different plan and I was unable to get them to "scroll over" to the appropriate protection plan.
I tried again on a different day during the first hour of their contact hours and had a cheerful Asurion agent who was able to find the appropriate kitchen item protection plan. It was a simple and thorough conversation and transaction. I was refunded within hours after I packed up and dropped off the damaged item out to UPS.
Moral of the story: Asurion Protection Plan is worth it and contact them at the start of their first day shift, not at the end of their evening shift.
