Cara Sur is a collaborative project between winemakers Sebastián Zuccardi and Marcela Manini, with Nuria Año Gargiulo and Pancho Burgallo, an avid mountaineering couple who live in Barreal, in the Calingasta Valley of San Juan, north of Mendoza. Their aim is to resurrect vineyards of heritage Argentinean grape varieties (criollas) and make authentic and expressive wines from them. The Pergolas range showcases blends from a multitude of tiny parcels across the valley.

This is a ridiculously fresh and juicy super-pale red wine – herbaceous with a hint of tart strawberry. Different Criolla grapes (Cereza, Criolla Grande, Canela and others that are natural crosses of Listán Prieto) make up the blend.

Pair with: Beef carpaccio, tomato bruschetta

This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.
